Getting Started
Starter packs are available from our e-Bay shop. Although many people only feed birds during the winter, it is best to feed them all year round, especially during the nesting season when birds are looking for extra food. When you start feeding birds, it usually takes a couple of weeks for them to locate your feeder. It may be more difficult to attract birds during late spring and early summer because there is a larger wild food supply.
Hanging bird feeders are a good choice as not only are they an economical way of feeding birds who visit your garden, but can be specifically located where you can enjoy their presence to the full. A bird seed feeder can accommodate a wide range of bird seeds. We sell a wide range of bird seed feeders including a squirrel proof seed feeder and a wild bird seed feeder.
Nut feeders, seed feeders and suet feeders are all available from our e-Bay shop. Hanging feeders such as these are perfect if garden space is limited, they also give better protection against cats and squirrels than bird tables do. Greenfinches, tits, sparrows and nuthatches actually prefer feeders.
Some species such as robins, chaffinches and dunnocks prefer bird tables. If you have space, a hanging feeder and a bird table are ideal, although be careful where you position the table as cats can easily jump onto them, especially from trees and fences.
There are various types of bird feed to choose, from wild bird feed and black sunflower seeds to fat balls and dried mealworms. Do not put out food that has been processed for the human market such as dry roasted nuts, choose a proper bird feed. Excellent quality ready mixed bird feed is available from our e-Bay shop.
Once started, you'll find that observing birds is a fascinating hobby. You'll see a range of different birds during the seasons.
