Bird Food
Choosing bird food is important if you are looking to attract a certain species of bird to your garden.
We sell a wide variety of wild bird food to attract a diverse variety of birds to your garden. Black sunflower seeds and peanuts are popular for those who are new to bird feeding. Using some specialist seeds will broaden the variety of birds to your garden; thistle seed (niger) is a popular bird food to attract siskins, goldfinches, and other small songbirds. Sunflower hearts are also a popular treat loved by songbirds. The benefits of sunflower hearts are they contain high levels of oil and energy and there is no waste. However, these seeds spoil quicker than others, and need to be kept dry.
Wild bird seed is an ideal mix for feeding wild birds all year round. Another choice is dried mealworms, which are high in energy and fat. Fat balls can be offered all year round and are particularly beneficial to birds during the winter months when other food sources are scarce.
Foreign finch food is a low fat choice for birds such as waxbills and grassfinches. This provides most of the essential nutrition for foreign finches. Black sunflower seeds are a good all-rounder. They have a softer shell than normal sunflower seeds and are easier to eat for the large variety of birds they attract. Striped sunflower seeds are full of carbohydrates, protein and fat which are extremely nutritional for the cardinals and jays they attract.
We also sell suet bird food in packs containing 3 different flavours; peanut, fruit and berry. These are especially beneficial to birds during the winter months.
As well as selling wild bird food we also stock parrot food. It is a good idea to offer your parrot a varied diet rather than just one type of seed. Parrots like to mix their food with water, but make sure you regularly clean out their water bowl. We sell a few different types of parrot foods including peanuts in shell which are a favourite with many parrots. Sunflower hearts which are high in oil and energy, or striped sunflower seeds which contain protein, carbohydrates and fat are both nutritional choices. We also stock a good all-round parrot mix containing a variety of seeds, also available in de luxe.
